Explorig the faith

Baptism

Baptism is the means by which people publicly proclaim themselves Christians and commit to the living community of the church. We baptise believers of all ages. We also baptise infants and children when their parents profess faith and commit themselves to church and to Christian parenting.

Some parents, not yet ready to make that regular commitment, prefer to have a thanksgiving or naming ceremony, sometimes called a service of dedication. Whichever stage you are at, we will be delighted to hear from you to arrange what is right for you.

confirmation

Confirmation is the Church of England's way of offering to those baptised in early years, an opportunity to affirm their living faith today and express their commitment to participation in the mission of the church.

We host confirmation services led by a bishop every year or two. Those who have not yet been baptised are baptised before confirmation, often within the same service.

weddings

We love taking weddings! A Christian wedding is a coming together of two lives in the presence of God, pointing towards the loving relationship that God offers through Jesus. We offer a beautiful venue, a member of clergy and a fine organ. Beforehand, our clergy will help you explore the service, marriage, and the Christian faith. If you live in our parish, or have past family connections with Emmanuel, or if you have been worshipping at Emmanuel for six months or more, and have joined the electoral roll, contact us for more information on weddings.

funerals

funerals

The death of someone close to you brings much to think about and we can help you say goodbye in the context of Jesus Christ’s redeeming love. Anyone can have a Christian funeral at Emmanuel, whether they used to go to church or not.

We will give thanks to God for the life of the person you knew and loved. As a church, we can support your family and friends before, during and after the funeral. We will share the Christian message of hope and comfort. God promises death is not the end. Wherever you choose to have the funeral, you can add a personal touch to reflect the unique person that you knew. Enquire for more information.
