Emmanuel Plymouth home groups, helping to connect people in faith HOME GROUPS At Emmanuel our home groups are at the heart of church life. These small, welcoming gatherings meet during the week in people’s homes across the city. They’re a place to grow in faith, build genuine friendships, and support one another as we follow Jesus together. Each group spends time: Exploring the Bible and applying it to real life Praying and caring for one another Sharing food, stories, and life together Encouraging each other to live out our faith Whether you’ve been part of Emmanuel for years or you’re just starting out, home groups are a great way to feel part of the family. We believe discipleship happens best in community and our home groups are where that truly comes alive. Join a home group. Find belonging. Grow in Christ. Find a group

- Wider Mission - Emmanuel Church
Learn more about our wider missions. mission This mission link is not about what one church can give to the other but about walking together in faith, learning from one another, and growing together as part of Christ’s body worldwide. At Emmanuel Church, Plymouth, we are passionate about living out our faith not only in our own city but also through building meaningful partnerships with the worldwide church. As part of the Diocese of Exeter, we are connected with the Diocese of Thika in Kenya and the Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf. These links remind us that God’s family is wonderfully diverse and spread across the globe. We are delighted to share that Emmanuel has formed a special relationship with St Monica’s Church, Mugumo-ini, in Thika, Kenya. St Monica’s is a lively, multilingual congregation whose worship reflects the beauty of God’s kingdom. Services are held in English, Kiswahili, and Kikuyu, enabling people of all generations and backgrounds to come together in praise. The church is especially blessed with a thriving children’s and youth ministry. So many young people attend that St Monica’s is currently completing the construction of a two-story building – providing much-needed Sunday school classrooms and meeting spaces for adults. This growth is a powerful sign of God’s work among them. In May this year, three members of our congregation travelled to Thika to visit St Monica’s. They were warmly welcomed by staff and parishioners and had the chance to witness first-hand the life and ministry of the church within its community. We hope this is just the beginning: plans are underway for members of St Monica’s to visit Emmanuel, and for our Youth Group to one day experience their own Kenyan adventure. Our partnership is grounded in mutual prayer and encouragement. Though separated by miles and shaped by different cultures, we stand together in Christ. We share in the universal human experiences of hope and despair, loneliness and community, joy and praise—and we are united in the saving love of Jesus and the promises of God’s Word. STUDENTS We ❤ students Whether you're new to Plymouth or looking for a place to grow spiritually, Emmanuel Church welcomes you with warmth, wisdom, and open arms. We’re a church known for our thoughtful worship and a welcoming community. While many of our members are older, we see that as one of our greatest strengths and a real gift for students. At Emmanuel, you’ll experience intergenerational learning: a chance to connect with people of different ages, life experiences, and perspectives, all united by faith. What we can offer students: 🕊️ Wisdom and mentorship We are filled with people who have lived through decades of faith, relationships, careers, and challenges. For students navigating major life decisions, this wisdom can be a source of grounded guidance and support, especially in a world that often feels uncertain. 🤝 Authentic Community Many students feel lonely or anonymous in new environments. We can offer a strong sense of belonging, where people genuinely care, remember your name, and want to invest in your life. 🌿 Spiritual Stability Amid the noise and rush of university life, we provide a calm, reflective environment. The liturgy, hymns, and timeless teaching can be surprisingly refreshing, a spiritual anchor in a fast-moving world. 📖 Intergenerational Growth Being part of a multi-age community teaches empathy, patience, and deeper ways of seeing the world. Students often find their faith stretched and enriched by hearing stories from others who’ve wrestled with the same questions over a lifetime. 🍽️ Hospitality and Home-Cooked Meals We love to host. Sunday lunches, tea after services, and even offers to help with practical needs can turn a church into a true home away from home. Who dosn't love a good homemade cake 🙌 Opportunities to Lead and Serve We welcome younger people into leadership and service roles more quickly than student-only churches.
